Physical Health or Ranking - Boulter's Australian Open Dilemma

Britain's Katie Boulter says she feels she has to "choose between my physical condition and my ranking" as the race persists for a place in January's Australian Open main draw.

While the typical WTA Tour tournament schedule is over, there are still ranking points to be earned in South American nations, neighboring countries, Ecuador and international tournaments.

The women's participant roster for the first Grand Slam of the forthcoming season will be calculated from the global standings of the December cutoff, which could cause a difficult choice for players close to the selection threshold.

Injury Concerns

Previous British leading competitor Boulter experienced an groin injury in her concluding competition of the year in Asian venues last month, and is now weighing up whether to play in the WTA 125 secondary tournament in European venues, the continental destination, in the initial week of December.

The athlete's ongoing health concern, and the reality she would need to secure at least three matches in the French tournament to boost her standing, means she may likely ultimately not participating.

Varying Approaches

In comparison, men's competitors are not experiencing the equivalent predicament, as for the premier occasion the male Australian Open participant roster will be established from this week's standings, which is the ATP's formal annual-final position determination.

The modification is designed to discouraging players from pursuing ranking points during what is fundamentally the break period.

Training Transitions

This year has been a difficult one for Boulter.

She won only 14 elite primary competition games and currently split with instructor Biljana Veselinovic after a three-year working relationship in which she secured three WTA titles.

"Biljana is an outstanding trainer, and an exceptionally excellent person as well, which creates situations extremely hard," Boulter commented.

The quest for a replacement instructor is actively progressing, looking for a professional who has elite background as Boulter continues to think she can be a top-20 competitor.

Professional Aspirations

"Going forward with a replacement instructor, a key aspect I'm completely sure on is that they are going to be a professional who has a lot of expertise in how to succeed to the very top level of this profession," she stated.

"I've been ranked as advanced as twenty-three and I know I can get back there. I don't think my level has diminished, I think the steadiness should improve.

"My objective is not to be ranked fifty, forty, thirty, 20 - we've achieved that. The goal is to be inside 20."
