Mikel Arteta Praises ‘More Reliable’ Team and Reveals Kai Havertz Injury Blow.

Arsenal's manager remains confident that his side can keep managing with injury setbacks after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The German forward has been sidelined since the summer due to an operation on his knee. Originally slated to return earlier in December, Arteta revealed the player faced a hurdle when increasing his rehabilitation and could not progress “to the next level.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” Arteta said.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This development presents a selection headache for the midweek home game against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return from a muscle injury in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is also an option following a lengthy absence.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues affect centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Stamford Bridge game. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to continue in the backline for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on new players ahead of this season has resulted in a much stronger position to handle such setbacks.

Squad Depth Vital for Title Challenge

In response if a larger pool of players was aiding their title quest, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, as this campaign has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he continued.

“We learned from the past that we have to use players in various roles, and they must be capable to perform various functions if we are to fight at this level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Star

Speaking about the delay highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “He followed all protocols. He could not go to the required step and now it appears like we have unlocked that.”

He shared his keenness to have him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, Havertz is someone that, for me, I value highly for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I see him suffer on the sidelines.”

“His availability record is phenomenal, he’s been always available, and I can’t wait to get him back involved on the pitch because I feel it’s going to be a huge lift.”
